Merin Attracts Top Surgeons To Training Session
HENDERSON, Nev. (September 27) – The Medical Education & Research Institute of Nevada (MERIN), a new surgical training facility, located in Henderson, Nevada minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, is attracting 90 national and international surgeons and medical professionals to an advanced technology training seminar October 19 through 22.
The seminar, organized by global medical device maker Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics, will be the largest to be held in the new MERIN learning center since it opened earlier this year.
“MERIN is a key component of our physician training strategy,” said Smith & Nephew spokesman Chip Colonna, vice president brand marketing. “Orthopaedic surgeons from 23 states and Italy will attend the October training session.
Dr. Michael Crovetti, MERIN's founder said "The large number of physicians attending the Smith & Nephew seminar is an excellent sign that major biotechnology corporations and leading health care professionals perceive the Las Vegas Valley as a viable biotech center." Usually seminars at MERIN train about 20 to 30 doctors, so this is a significant increase.
MERIN is the most technologically advanced center in the Western United States. The 18,000-square-foot teaching facility houses a 50-seat surgical amphitheater. Four mounted plasma screens enable precise viewing of procedures from anywhere in the theater. Nine spacious surgical suites provide more than ample room for the testing and hands-on application of new procedures and equipment. A 95-seat lecture hall features the latest in technological communication advances where presentations can be broadcast internationally. Private conference rooms for small group meetings and sales training enable attendees to view presentations from the lecture hall or amphitheater. Airy, open spaces are easily transformed into meeting areas suitable for breakfast or luncheon gatherings.
MERIN's Generations: An Anatomical Donation Program procures whole body donation and the facility is capable of storing cadavers for use during training sessions. Facility managers are located on-site and also provide session organizers with destination management services.
Seminar organizer, Smith & Nephew will be training orthopedic surgeons on the use of mini incision surgical instrumentation. The equipment enables physicians to make smaller incisions when performing hip or knee replacement surgery. The smaller incisions result in less scarring, less muscle damage and shorter rehabilitation times, which allows patients to return to their normal lifestyle more quickly with less discomfort.
“When we first conceptualized MERIN, we knew that it would attract doctors from across the United States and most certainly internationally,” said Crovetti. “We're achieving that goal while also establishing Southern Nevada as a major biotech center in the West."
MERIN is convenient to McCarran International Airport as well as major freeways. The City’s multitude of limousine services provides easy and comfortable transportation to and from the MERIN facility from most Strip and off-Strip resorts.
MERIN is located at 874 American Pacific in Henderson, Nevada approximately 20 minutes from the bright lights and excitement of the Las Vegas Strip. World class resorts offer visiting physicians and health care professionals a multitude of leisure activities from casino play to an abundance of five star restaurants and world-renowned golf courses.
